When is a terrorist not a terrorist?

I get the impression that, if you are a white, native citizen of the country where you go on a shooting or bombing spree, and you are a non-follower of Christianity, rather than any other religion, then the carnage you cause is not an act of terrorism.

While it certainly seems that way, sometimes, in the media, it's not so. Terrorism is a tactic, and any time a attack is focused upon civilians with the intent of causing fear, suffering and panic, it's terrorism. The color of your skin or the hatred which animates you to do this terrible thing, or the nature of your belief in some invisible skydaddy has nothing at all to do with it. It has entirely to do with targeting civilians, as opposed to legitimate military targets, and a desire to cause panic.
